If you'd like to plot with Adam, this is the place! He's new to Siren Cove, so while it's not likely he'll have a long history with them, he's also been working in New York and around the world as a model in recent years. Any other famous~ characters might be able to create a bit of history with him.
CHARACTER NAME: Adam McAuliffe
CHARACTER AGE: 25
SPECIES: Siren
BACKGROUND & HISTORY: Adam was born and raised in a loving family of sirens, though it was evident from early on in his life that his entire family was just a little bit rebellious. His mother and father both refused to become part of any enclave, instead choosing to follow their own moral compasses, and they went through life with a particular brand of confidence that comes from being able to tell people to do whatever it is you want them to do. The occasional run-in with local matriarchs meant the McAullife family moved around a fair bit before they settled near Siren Cove when Adam was eighteen. They instilled this same sort of reckless confidence in both Adam and his younger brother Keller, which eventually led to tragedy. While Adam put his powers and his confidence to use and ended up working successfully as a model from the time he was sixteen until just nine months ago, Keller went in an entirely different direction.
Convinced nothing could ever hurt him, he had a tendency to engage in reckless behaviour and wound up wrecking his car with Adam in it the day he was supposed to drive him to the airport for a job he was starting in New York. Keller was killed and Adam suffered severe burns on a large area of his torso and down his right hip and thigh. The burns aren't visible so long as he's dressed, but knowing he would never work as a model again, he'll be moving into Siren Cove proper, looking for a place to continue healing where he's not likely to be pursued by any media.
Before the accident Adam had been involved with quite a successful actress -- Leigh Nelson -- and for a time he had been convinced they were going to get married. He loved her, as true as he's ever loved anyone, but the accident made it clear that she was looking for someone who would look good on her arm more than she cared about maintaining an emotional connection. She tried for a few months, but more and more often she had scheduling conflicts and excuses as to why she couldn't visit Adam. The fact that she tried at all made it easier for Adam to break it off for her. It kept her reputation in tact and severed the ties all at once. He isn't angry about it, but he is still hurting over it.
Siren Cove seemed like a good enough place to start over. He knows there's magic here, it's close enough to his parents that he can still see them when he wants, but it's far enough away from New York and Hollywood to keep him from his old life, which is exactly what he needs.
PERSONALITY: Reckless but kind, conniving and yet somehow charming in it, Adam's manipulations of people are generally without any real malice behind them. He's a siren and he's been taught from a very young age that he's special, that he's above others, but he's also been taught to be generally kind to them at the same time. He doesn't pity people who are without powers and he doesn't target them, but at the same time Adam has absolutely no qualms about using his powers to get what he wants.
It just so happens that what he often wants really isn't going to hurt anyone else.
He's the type of man to spend an evening at a bar using his powers to get free drinks for himself and all his friends and then leave without paying the tab. But the next week he'll turn around and use his fame to host a party at the same bar, bringing in more business in one night that they would have normally seen in a month. Adam takes, but very rarely without giving in return. He does have a tendency to make snap judgments and he isn't very good about keeping his opinions to himself when they occur to him, but he's also not above apologizing when he realizes he's wrong.
He's often seen as being flighty and sometimes he is, but that certainly doesn't mean he's stupid. Adam is a smart business man, he just also likes to party now and then. He's kind, but not without a bit of a bite, and the loss of his brother, career and girlfriend all within three months of one another has hit him hard.
He can appear very shallow and light hearted, like nothing ever really bothers him, but Adam is carrying heavy burdens with him into Siren Cove and he's prone to quiet, private bouts of self-pity that may become a little more public and a little less quiet as time goes on and he tries to deal with everything he's lost.
OPINION OF THE RIVALRY: Although he knows vaguely about the rivalry, he has little interest in it, though not because he would consider it petty. Adam has never claimed loyalty to any one group of people and won't begin to now. He'll find the entire thing more amusing than anything, especially to think it's still alive and well after all these years.
LIFESTYLE: Adam not only comes from money, given that his parents weren't particularly scrupulous when it come to using their powers, but he's earned more than a fair bit of his own through his modeling work. He's not overwhelmingly rich, but he is used to a certain lifestyle and has luckily saved more than enough (and has parents who are still happy to take care of their remaining child) that he'll be able to maintain what he's used to.
Given that he's still recovering from his burns, he's not currently working and won't actually have any idea what to do once he's able, which is something I want to explore with him.
His experience with fame and fortune means he's tried a little bit of everything. Drugs, drinking, men, women, most of the time Adam isn't all that particular. He was faithful to Leigh during the course of their relationship, but he's no longer entirely sure she was. She'd asked him to bring someone else into the bedroom once or twice and he'd had no problem doing that for her, but now he wonders if it wasn't something more.
If pressed, Adam wouldn't be able to list that many interests. Once upon a time he would have said sex and photography -- a secret passion of his that was acceptable when he was a model -- but now he's generally scared of being physically intimate due to his burns and is mostly apathetic about photography. He's shallow in a lot of ways and is going to have to do some self discovery over the next little while.
POWERS & ABILITIES: Adam is a powerful siren, his abilities cultivated and helped along by his parents. He doesn't sing, but he has strong powers of influence and often only has to ask someone to do something for him. His powers lie in that of suggestion, most often making people believe the things they do for him are things they already want to do, and because he's quite talented at planting the suggestion in their mind, this feeling rarely fades. People don't leave Adam feeling as if they've been taken advantage of in any way, which is a facet of his powers he's worked very hard to strengthen. He never wants to leave people feeling bad in any way and doesn't like the idea of someone walking away from him thinking he's done something wrong.
His siren form is different from the majority of those in Siren Cove. Though he doesn't know it, he comes from a very old family of sirens and when he does transform -- which is extremely rare, especially with his injuries as they are -- he takes on the form of a bird. His feet are strong and powerfully taloned, his lower half covered in dark grey feathers, his eyes bright and yellow.
